We are a Transitional Kindergarten (TK) - 8th Grade elementary school, proud to have over 100 years of educating students in the Catholic tradition. Our legacy of academic excellence is Christ-centered and rooted in research-based instructional methodology, so our graduates grow into prepared, successful, and productive leaders.
Personally, my dedication to and support of the Catholic faith is longstanding, as I have been a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church for 20 years. All of our grown children attended and graduated from St. John the Baptist Catholic School, so we are also a proud legacy family of this outstanding school.
I graduated from The Ohio State University in 1985, and immediately obtained my Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation while working in public accounting. My wife, Melanie, and I entered diaconate formation in 2011. I was ordained a Permanent Deacon in September 2016 and have maintained a close and supportive relationship with the pastor, teachers, and students. Giving retreats for teachers and students, training altar servers, and serving the needs of our parish and parish school is immensely fulfilling. I have witnessed hundreds of children, including our own, grow into respectful adults who are confident in their abilities to read and speak publicly and who are strong in their desire to serve others the way Jesus did.
Why am I “all in” for Catholic education? Quite simply, Catholic education has a legacy of academic excellence and so much more. We prepare our children for an ever changing world and for jobs yet to exist, starting with a Christ-centered learning environment that encourages development of the “whole child”. Our students learn to be problem solvers, critical thinkers, collaborators, and responsible and ethical citizens in a Christ-centered way. I continually learn from and am inspired by our students!
At St. John’s we have outstanding teachers who are dedicated to fostering loving and nurturing classrooms that focus on learning for knowledge and deep understanding, not just a letter grade. Our teachers address the needs of all learners through differentiated, data driven instruction along with current technology. We have a part-time Educational Achievement Specialist (EAS) on staff who provides intervention and support with outstanding results - students’ academic growth has increased 99%!
Academic excellence and exceptional teachers are just the beginning. We offer Spanish, music, drama, environmental literacy programs, weekly Mass, service and leadership opportunities, and extra-curricular sports for additional ways our students can fulfill their fullest potential, fall in love with learning and have fun.
We feel strongly in the home-school relationship because we understand parents are the primary educators of their children. In fact, research shows us that students thrive and reach higher levels of learning when this connection is strong, so we work in partnership with our parents to build ties that are rooted in faith. Together we create a learning environment in which students excel academically and grow personally, socially and spiritually. Our students thrive and have fun, all while making memories that last a lifetime.
In addition, our location in vibrant downtown Napa provides ample opportunities for educational walking field trips.
We welcome your child to a playdate for TK-3rd or a “Shadow Day” for grades 4-8th. I invite you to visit our campus and see firsthand what has drawn me, my teachers and staff, and so many families to the close, family-oriented community of St. John the Baptist Catholic School. We hope you will agree that St. John’s is truly a unique and wonderful experience!
