Kindergarten Class Information
Mrs. Carole McClintick: I am a graduate of Justin-Siena High School and received my B.A. in Psychology from Lawrence University. I went back to school and received my Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential from Pacific Union College while working at St. John the Baptist Catholic School. I have been at St. John’s for the past eleven years, spending two years as the preschool co-director, a year in kindergarten, three years in third grade, three years in first grade, and two years in junior high. I love teaching at all grade loves and I’m thrilled to be back in kinder this year!
Mrs. Paulette Boyce: I began working at St. John the Baptist Catholic School in 1979 when my children were here. In that time I have worn many hats; secretary, Extended Care administrator and for the past 15 years I have been working as a classroom aide in kinder. I have taken many classes through Napa College with a focus on Early Childhood Development. My goal has been to assist the teacher wherever needed and to make sure all the children know that they are special. I’m looking forward to a wonderful year getting to know each one of you.
Rules and Classroom Management System:
Rules
- Listen carefully.
- Follow directions.
- Work quietly. Do not disturb others who are working.
- Respect others. Be kind with your words and actions.
- Respect school and personal property.
- Work and play safely.
Management System
When a student breaks a classroom rule the following system will be used. All students begin with their stick in the can. If they receive a warning, their stick will be moved to the green pocket. If they have a second problem, their stick will be moved to the yellow pocket which indicates that they will have a 5 minute time out either from a classroom activity or recess. If a third problem occurs, their stick will be moved to the red pocket, indicating that I will contact the student’s parents. If a student’s stick is in any of the colored pockets, they may not choose from the treasure basket if their name is drawn that day. General Information:
- Your child’s teachers:
- Mrs. Carole McClintick and Mrs. Paulette Boyce
- P.E.- Ms. Michele Di Marco
- Computers- Mrs. Kristen Stiver
- Music- Mr. Tony Carlin
- Library- Mrs. Rozanne Evans
- Library: Our library day is Tuesday. Your child will check out one book each week and will be expected to return it the next week.
- Birthdays: On your child’s birthday, please feel free to send in treats for recess or you may bring them in at the end of the day (approximately 2:30) for a short celebration. If your child is having a party outside of school and they want to pass out invitations that is fine with me, if they are bringing an invitation for everyone in the class. If they are not inviting everyone, I prefer that you mail them.
- All About Me posters: Each child will get a chance to bring this poster home during the year. Please help your child complete it and bring it back to share.
- Sharing: Please help your child to remember their sharing day. Have them prepare what they want to say. Also, remind them that when they bring something it may get touched or even accidentally broken.
- Absences & tardies: These will be strongly enforced this year. If your child arrives after morning assembly has begun they are considered tardy and will need to check in at the office before entering the classroom. Please review the handbook for more information on excused versus unexcused tardies and absences.
- Snacks & Lunch: Please send 2 healthy snacks each day (possibly in a large ziplock baggie or separate brown bag) as we will have a morning and afternoon recess. On full days please send a healthy lunch and drink for your child.
Curriculum
We will use the California State Standards as our guideline for all academic subjects and the diocese outline for religion. Here is what we will be studying this year!
Language Arts: They will learn about the concepts of print; understanding the letters and their sounds. They will begin to blend sounds and learn to read! We will work on their reading comprehension and expose them to many types of stories. We will work on their penmanship and by the end of the year they should be writing sentences and short paragraphs on their own! By the end of the year, your kindergartner will be able to read, write, speak and listen with confidence! (Pretty exciting, huh? ☺)
Math: They will learn the relationship between numbers and their quantities; which will lead us to simple addition and subtraction. We will work with the basic concepts of time, money and measurement. We will also work with geometric figures, graphing and probability.

Social Studies: They will learn about being a good citizen in our school and in our community. They will learn about community members and their jobs. They will also learn about our nation; including state and national symbols and icons. We will look at all of the important holidays and talk about important historical figures.
Science: They will learn about our earth and the plants and animals that inhabit it. They will learn about the properties of materials by observing, measuring and predicting. They will learn about the human body and their senses. All the while they will begin understanding about scientific experimentation.
Religion: They will learn that God created the world and made us to be like him. They will learn that when we pray we are talking to God. They will learn that Jesus is the Son of God, and the Son of Mary. They will learn that we belong to God’s family, the Church. They will learn that we serve God through our actions. They will learn the Sign of the Cross, Lord’s Prayer, Hail Mary, Glory Be, and Grace (before meals).
As you can see, we will be very busy this year!! |
