Principal's Piece

"We are One Body"

On behalf of the faculty and staff of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and School, I formally welcome your family to the 2010-2011 school year. By now, you've heard enthusiastic descriptions of your child's first days of school and you've been given important classroom information from your child's teacher. We are blessed with many gifts at St. Johns; faculty and administration stability, dedicated Pastoral staff, steady enrollment, improved facilities and faith-filled families. At a time when our public counterparts are struggling, we are thriving.

You've been given much information in the past few days but I want to emphasize the many ways to stay informed at St. John the Baptist Catholic School. Regular announcements will be posted on our school website (www.stjohnscatholic.org), classroom pages, in our weekly, electronic newsletters (the eGazette), through email "blasts" and in bimonthly Wednesday envelopes. You can reach the school staff either by phone or email and all contact information is available on our website. A family directory will be made available in the coming weeks.

As you heard at Open House, we are able to offer all that we do through active parent participation. There are many ways to become involved at St. Johns: committees, events and activities. Be sure that you've completed and return your Parent Participation Form. We will be contacting those who have not. We have immediate need for participants on our Faith Formation team, Public Relations committee, Technology Committee, Fall Fundraising dinner and Jog-a-Thon. If you are interested, let us know by sending a message to schoolinfo@stjohnscatholic.org.

Layering onto our bustling school year is the upcoming Capital Campaign which will bring us the most significant facilities renovation since the construction of the church in 1967. You will be hearing details about the project in the coming months. Of primary importance at this time is your participation in our Annual Fund. We must have 100% family participation in order for grants and major donors to consider our applications for funds. If you haven't done so already, please send your contribution to the school office. Remember, no donation is too small!

Again, I welcome you! I am absolutely joyful about our upcoming school year.

"We are One Body...One Body in Christ."

In Peace,

Nancy Jordan
Principal

Notes from the Family Club

What a great way to start off the new school year - so many friendly familiar faces, reconnecting with old friends and reaching out to welcome new parents. Kristy Reynoso and her team of parent volunteers were up bright and early, bringing coffee and treats to help us all get going, a tradition that we look forward to on the first day of school! Thank you, Kristy and all the parents who helped.

The first Family Club meeting of the year took place right there around the coffee table! Room Coordinators were there representing every class. We thank you, Room Coordinators. From welcoming new families to joining in at the first Family Club meeting, to preparing sign up sheets and teacher wish lists for Back to School Night, your Room Coordinators have been busy already! If you are unable to attend Family Club monthly meetings, do not worry about missing out on information...your Room Coordinator will communicate with you and keep you informed.

Don't forget to look at the Family Club calendar on the bulletin board in the main entrance hallway. It will be updated monthly and give you an overview of what is coming up during the month. Sign-up sheets will also be posted on the bulletin board. You can look for volunteer opportunities throughout the school year and sign up for activities you would like to participate in.

Please come to the next Family Club meeting Monday, September 27 @ 3:15 pm. Aftercare will be available for parents joining the meeting. All parents are welcome and encouraged to come to the meetings, to visit with new friends and old, get information, and discuss your thoughts and ideas about school activities.

We are all looking forward to a wonderful school year.

Jog-a-Thon 2010

2010 Jog-a-Thon

"Twist & Shout"

The planning is underway for the annual Jog-a-Thon fundraiser. Please check your Wednesday Envelope for important forms, deadlines and information regarding the event. We hope to make this year's event BIGGER and BETTER than ever before but we need your help. This year we challenge our staff members, parents, grandparents, friends and family members to find sponsors and join us on the track. Special prizes will be awarded.

The students always enjoy this event and we know you will too. Begin working on your Parent Hours early! Please contact Katie Batt through the school office (707) 224-8388 x 0 or at ktbatt@yahoo.com for opportunities to become a Business Sponsor, participant and/or to volunteer for this event. Thank you!

Morning Drop-Off Announcement

Please remember that parking on the playground is not allowed during morning drop-off. The south-western gate is open for students and parents to walk into the yard only. Cars entering and parking on the yard creates a safety hazzard as students line up for morning assembly.

We invite all families to morning assembly but ask that you use parking available on the surrounding streets. Also, students may not be dropped off on Napa Street to enter through the front door of the school. The City of Napa does not allow for traffic back-up on Napa Street.

Students arriving after morning assembly has begun will be marked tardy and an adult must walk them into the school office to be signed in.
