Facilities Campaign

Dear St. John the Baptist Catholic School Families,

We warmly welcome you back after Christmas and hope that you enjoyed valuable time with your cherished children. We enter into 2009 with sincere thanksgiving for a faith-filled, mission-focused community. Together we pray for a blessed New Year of mutual growth in the love of Christ and family with special prayers for peace.

As we start the New Year, we wish to update you on our Facilities Campaign. In the midst of this cold, winter season, we have benefited from our necessary and significant facilities improvement project which provided energy-efficient, hygienic flooring and heating system. To date, we have achieved $275,000.00 of our $400,000.00 goal. Parishioners, Religious Education families, community partners, and alumni have all actively answered our call for involvement.

To date, only 40 current school families have contributed, equating to approximately 23% of our current school families. To those who' ve contributed, we sincerely thank you. Your contribution has made a difference.

In consultation with our School Council, we believe it to be reasonable to expect 100% Facilities Campaign participation from our current school families. However, we have never asked for nor assessed a specific amount. We ask only that there is ownership by all our school families. If everyone contributed to the best of their ability, our Facilities Campaign will be resolved.

Of course, we know these times present challenges. As your school and parish administrators, we are also challenged to responsibly support and sustain our treasured and historic school and faith home. Our partnership is critical.

There are many ways to contribute. If you would like to make a monthly, semi-annual or annual pledge via credit card or Electronic Fund Transfer from checking or savings, we have a form available on line at our website or you may make a check payable to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church - note: school facility. We have also included the donation form in this E-Gazette. All donations are tax deductible.

Thank you for your on-going dedication to the mission of our wonderful school.

In Peace,

Nancy Jordan, Principal

Welcome National Catholic Schools Week 2009!
January 25 - January 31

Did you know that our children are among the 2,270,913. that attend Catholic schools in the United States? That's 7,378 schools and 160,175 teachers! January 25 through January 31 marks National Catholic Schools Week. National Catholic Schools Week is a joint project of the National Catholic Education Association (NCEA)* and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. Catholic Schools Week celebrates the high standards of excellence and the quality of the education available to all students in Catholic elementary and secondary schools across the U.S. Catholic Schools Week is an annual national celebration of the important role that Catholic elementary and secondary schools across the country play in providing a values-added education for America's young people. Catholic schools are proud of their educational network that emphasizes intellectual, spiritual, moral, physical, and social values in their students.

This year's theme is "Celebrate Service" which emphasizes the duty and delight of giving back. Catholicism has a long and rich tradition of direct service to those in need, as well as social justice efforts to end social ills like racism and homelessness. Catholic schools incorporate service projects into the curriculum, teaching students the value of helping others as an expression of faith and good citizenship. "Civic engagement is a hallmark of Catholic education," said Karen Ristau, president of NCEA. "The majority of elementary and secondary schools participate in service projects ranging from collecting canned goods for the homeless to rebuilding schools in the hurricane-torn gulf, so it was natural that we choose service as a major theme." Catholic Schools Week themes have emphasized what makes a high-quality, values-driven Catholic education stand out among the school choices available to students and their families.

*NCEA, founded in 1904, is a professional membership organization that provides leadership, direction and service to fulfill the evangelizing, catechizing and teaching mission of the church. NCEA members include elementary schools, high schools, parish religious education programs and seminaries.

Prospective New Families Open House

Dear St. John the Baptist Catholic School Families,

Think about how you joined our family. Was it an ad? Was it a flyer? Was it a recommendation from a friend or family member? What we're learning is that "word of mouth" is the BEST source of new student referrals. People trust their friends!

We are heading into the registration season and are looking to fill our Kindergarten for 09/10! There are also limited openings in several other grades. I've attached our Open House invitation. Please forward this flyer to your friends, family and any others you'd like to join us in our incredible school! Add your own note! Your recommendation is invaluable!

I also invite you to print the invitation and post it in the community - pre-schools, dance studios, gyms, etc. Be creative!

Thank you for your on-going dedication.

In Peace,

Nancy Jordan
Principal
