Technology at St. John the Baptist Catholic School is state-of-the-art. Due to significant and stable backing from our internal fundraising events and generous community sponsors, our program doesn’t merely begin and end with a good idea. It is sustainable, progressive and most importantly, preparing our students to become active and responsible users of technology for their lifetime. Highlights of our program are as follows:
Infrastructure
Our campus includes:
- a 32 station computer lab that boasts 32, 2008 Dell computers outfitted with 20“ flat screen monitors and a teacher work station with LCD projector for instruction
- Windows Vista, Word 2007, 2008 server, high speed internet access
- Staff network, intranet and online student database which allows staff to manage student records including attendances, grades and report cards electronically
- “Starboards”, internet-interactive, white boards in every classroom from Kindergarten through 8th grade.
- Four AV carts which each contain a lap-top computer equipped with a DVD player, USB ports, Microsoft Office 2007 programs, LCD projector and speakers. Teachers and students utilize the AV carts to make classroom presentations and operate “Starboards”.
- Two network laser printers enabling staff and students to meet paper use needs efficiently and responsibly
- A Kodak digital camera that enhances student and school technology projects
- Student computers in each classroom and in library, all equipped with Microsoft Office 2007 programs
Our Curriculum involves:
- The philosophy of integration: We believe that students acquire and incorporate technology best and more permanently when related to their daily lives. Therefore, we have partnered with Global Academics, www.globalacademics.com , a company which blends national technology standards with subject-area curriculum content standards in order to deliver the highest level of technology instruction…. For example, students in the 4th grade might master Microsoft Excel by creating a spreadsheet of the California Missions in order of their establishment. Global Academics is a partnership with Richmond University and came to St. John the Baptist Catholic School in 2007.
- Our technology curriculum is supplemented with critical components that boost the primary curriculum including: Cyber-ethics and safety responsibility including anti-bullying and self-protection components, keyboarding and subscriptions to educational video streaming services
