St. John's Extended Care
The Place to be After Three!
Extended Care at St. John the Baptist Catholic School
Welcome to “The Place to be After Three”, the St. John the Baptist Catholic School Extended Care program, offering structure and enrichment to students before and after the school day.
This exciting program is located upstairs in the main school building and is staffed by our capable and qualified professionals, Mrs. Eileen Dehzad and Mrs. Annie Hurwitz.
Staff: Mrs. Annie Hurwitz served as an Assistant Kindergarten teacher in Massachusetts from where she and her family relocated in 2007. She is creative, organized and provides innovative activities and support to her students.
Mrs. Eileen Dehzad supervises our students in extended care from 7-8am and every afternoon. She also joins Mrs. Katie Batt and Ms. Michele DiMarco for daily lunch supervision on the playground.
Dismissal to “The Place to be After Three”: Students attended extended care from 7-8am should be brought to the East entrance (closest to the church). A buzzer will alert Mrs. Dehzad who will greet students at the door. Students attending extended care after school will be dropped off to Mrs. Dehzad and Mrs. Hurwitz by their teachers at 3:15 on regular days or 12:45 on 1/2 days.
Schedule: Students will spend about 45 minutes in the extended care room upstairs, enjoying lunch or a snack and engaging in quiet activities such as reading or homework. In good weather, students will then be brought outside to engage in outside play.
Attendance: Any St. John student may use extended care, either on a drop-in or a regular basis. Registration forms are available on our school website and in the school office. Payment must be kept current in order to attend extended care.
Food: Be sure to send your child to school with a healthy afterschool snack. On 1/2 day Wednesdays, students need a healthy snack plus a lunch.
Contact information: The number to reach Mrs. Dehzad and Mrs. Hurwitz is 501-8204.
Additional Details:
· School Handbook Policies: Because our extended care program is an extension of the school day, all policies and procedures apply. Of specific note: Toys/electronic devices such as IPODS, Playstations, and other toys from home are not permitted. Cell Phones are not to be used and must remain in silent mode in backpacks. If your child needs to use a phone, they need to ask Mrs. Dehzad or Mrs. Hurwitz.
· Sunscreen: You may wish to provide Mrs. Dehzad and Mrs. Hurwitz a labeled bottle of sunscreen for your child.
· Water play: In the warm weather, extended care activities may include water play. Please send a change of clothes if you prefer your child to keep his/her school clothes dry.
The “Place to be After Three” team looks forward to introducing new activities each week such as scavenger hunts, "board game day", obstacle courses, and Friday movie day. We also are interested in having guest speakers speak with our students. If you have a skills, craft or hobby, let us know.
Thank you for entrusting your children to our care!
