Summer Homework
(06-10-2010)
Dear Incoming 4th Grade Students and Parents,
Summer, a time for fun, rest, reading, sports and travel but not a time to let 3rd grade skills fade. As usual, all teachers assign required summer homework. Students will be given a math workbook to help maintain math computation skills.* Continue to practice math facts. That’s most important. There are many fun, interactive websites to help maintain skills. One I particularly like is IXL.com (Cost $10.00 per month but just subscribe for July) or Kidsites.com (free).
In addition, I require that students visit two local (or nearly local) historical sites to prepare for the 4th grade California Social Studies curriculum.
Social Studies:
Napa Valley Museum
The Mission at Sonoma, The Barracks, and General Vallejo’s home (one admission fee)
Any other Mission if that coincides with your vacation travel plans
The Petaluma Adobe
The State Capital in Sacramento
Sutter’s Fort and the Railroad Museum in Sacramento
Reading: Sign up for the Napa Library Summer Reading program or a program in your town..
You must complete the program and show me your certificate.
Writing: Complete two book reports, using the attached sample as a guide.
If you have any questions during the summer, please email me at sberube@stjohnscatholic.org. In August, visit the 4th grade homework page on the school website. You may find a surprise.
See you on August 23rd, refreshed and ready for a great learning adventure in the 4th grade at St. John the Baptist Catholic School!
Mrs. Berube
