Welcome to 7th Grade!

Welcome, Mr. Owen, as our 7th grade teacher starting in the 2016-17 school year!

Mr. Michael Owen was born Daly City, CA in 1979.  In the early 1980's Mr. Owen’s family moved to Napa where he attended St. John's Catholic School and was a Gael from 1st grade through 8th grade.  Graduating in 1993, Mr. Owen continued his Catholic education at Justin-Siena High School where he took pride in his education, graduating with honors in 1997.  Mr. Owen continued his education at Napa Valley College where he earned an AA in Social and Interpersonal Communications.  During his two years at NVC, Mr. Owen was named an All-Scholar Athlete for having above a 3.5 GPA while playing basketball for the school.

During a short career in sales, Mr. Owen met his wife in 2007.  By 2009, Michael and Erika Owen were married and in 2010 they had their daughter, Isabella who is now 5 years old.  Mr. Owen also has a step-daughter who is 12 years old.

In 2011, Mr. Owen went back to college at Notre Dame de Namur University, a private Catholic university.   He finished his Bachelor's degree in Business Management in 2013.  Mr. Owen graduated at the top of his class by earning a cumulative GPA of 3.99.  He was named to the National Honors Society and was the President of the school's chapter.

Through the process of completing his degree, Mr. Owen realized he wanted to follow his heart and become a teacher.  Mr. Owen began his credentialing program and started working as a substitute teacher at Menlo Atherton High School.  Mr. Owen taught and coached at Menlo Atherton High School for 3 years before deciding to move home to Napa.  Mr. Owen and his wife, Erika, wanted their girls to have the same opportunities he had growing up in our wonderful town and thus decided to move back in June of 2015.

Since returning, Mr. Owen has been substitute teaching and coaching at Justin Siena High School and loves being back in the community that raised him.  Mr. Owen has continued his education and is working towards a Master’s Degree in Educational Counseling and both a Single Subject Math and a Pupil Personnel Services credential.  Mr. Owen takes a humanistic and holistic approach to teaching in the classroom.  He wants to educate the whole child.  Although Mr. Owen specializes in mathematics, he uses his faith-based teaching practices to help children develop with great consideration for the individual needs of each student.  Mr. Owen brings a level of excitement and commitment to the community that will motivate students to want to learn more in his classes.

Mr. Owen is very excited to once again be a part of the St. John's community and looks forward to giving back to the community that gave him so many skills and helped him to realize he was capable of achieving great things.

Exploraorium!

Hello all,

Our 7th and 8th grade Exploratorium trip is coming up.  I just sent home permission slip forms with the students in both classes today.

Parents, please sign and have your son or daughter return the forms with $10 by Friday 3/10/17.  The trip itself is on Thursday, 3/23/17.  We are still in need of chaperones.  I need 9 total and have 3 or 4 already.  So that means we need at least another 3 or 4 chaperones to volunteer. We will leave St. Johns at 9:30am and should leave SF by 3:00 to return to school by 4:30pm.  Please make sure someone is available to pick up your child promptly at 4:30pm unless they are going to extended care.  If you would like to chaperone please let me know asap and make sure all proper paperwork is done through the office so that you can chaperone no later than next Friday.

Thank you for all your support and look forward to this exciting and fun field trip with all my scientists and engineers.

My 7th grade science class is learning about plant reproduction and would like to do a lab with them with real flowers.  I would love to have 2 sets of different types of flowers. We need 13 of the same type of flowers and another 13 of a different type of flowers.  Please email me to let me know if one of you parents can help with this.  I'd like to get them asap and will go spend money if I have to but this was my last ditch effort.

Willy Wonka Field Trip Forms and $5

Hello Parents,

There are still a few students who have not turned in their forms for the Willy Wonka Play field trip on October 27th.  We need all permission slips turned in as soon as possible.  If we do not receive a permission slip for your child, they will not be able to join the rest of their class.  And, related to the same field trip, each student was supposed to bring in $5.  I have received some field trip forms without the money and I would appreciate it if you could send the money in tomorrow with your son or daughter.  This is helping take care of some of the cost for this trip.  If you have any questions regarding this or anything from my class please feel free to email me.
