Welcome, Mr. Owen, as our 7th grade teacher starting in the 2016-17 school year!
Mr. Michael Owen was born Daly City, CA in 1979. In the early 1980's Mr. Owen’s family moved to Napa where he attended St. John's Catholic School and was a Gael from 1st grade through 8th grade. Graduating in 1993, Mr. Owen continued his Catholic education at Justin-Siena High School where he took pride in his education, graduating with honors in 1997. Mr. Owen continued his education at Napa Valley College where he earned an AA in Social and Interpersonal Communications. During his two years at NVC, Mr. Owen was named an All-Scholar Athlete for having above a 3.5 GPA while playing basketball for the school.
During a short career in sales, Mr. Owen met his wife in 2007. By 2009, Michael and Erika Owen were married and in 2010 they had their daughter, Isabella who is now 5 years old. Mr. Owen also has a step-daughter who is 12 years old.
In 2011, Mr. Owen went back to college at Notre Dame de Namur University, a private Catholic university. He finished his Bachelor's degree in Business Management in 2013. Mr. Owen graduated at the top of his class by earning a cumulative GPA of 3.99. He was named to the National Honors Society and was the President of the school's chapter.
Through the process of completing his degree, Mr. Owen realized he wanted to follow his heart and become a teacher. Mr. Owen began his credentialing program and started working as a substitute teacher at Menlo Atherton High School. Mr. Owen taught and coached at Menlo Atherton High School for 3 years before deciding to move home to Napa. Mr. Owen and his wife, Erika, wanted their girls to have the same opportunities he had growing up in our wonderful town and thus decided to move back in June of 2015.
Since returning, Mr. Owen has been substitute teaching and coaching at Justin Siena High School and loves being back in the community that raised him. Mr. Owen has continued his education and is working towards a Master’s Degree in Educational Counseling and both a Single Subject Math and a Pupil Personnel Services credential. Mr. Owen takes a humanistic and holistic approach to teaching in the classroom. He wants to educate the whole child. Although Mr. Owen specializes in mathematics, he uses his faith-based teaching practices to help children develop with great consideration for the individual needs of each student. Mr. Owen brings a level of excitement and commitment to the community that will motivate students to want to learn more in his classes.
Mr. Owen is very excited to once again be a part of the St. John's community and looks forward to giving back to the community that gave him so many skills and helped him to realize he was capable of achieving great things.
