Miss Martinez was born and raised in St. Helena, California. She comes from a Catholic family and grew up going to the St. Helena Catholic Church and attended their CCD religion classes. She is proud of being a Napa Valley native and feels blessed to call it her home.
Miss Martinez attended Santa Rosa Junior College and received her Child Development Teaching Certificate, as well as her Associate’s Degree in Social and Behavioral Science. She then transferred to California State University, Sacramento, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Ethnic Studies. One of the Ethnic Studies view is the equality of education, regardless of a person’s background. During her undergrad program, Miss Martinez volunteered in an elementary and middle school. The elementary school was classified as a “Title 1” school, where majority of the children were considered low-income. She motivated the students to do well in school and opened their eyes to the benefits of being a good student.
For the past four years, Miss Martinez has been working at Montessori preschool in St. Helena. She began as a substitute, then a teacher assistant and soon after graduating from Sacramento State; she was offered a job as a lead teacher. She believes that every child can succeed academically with the right help and guidance. She gets joys from seeing her students overcome a challenge and continues to encourage them to do their best. Miss Martinez looks forward to completing her California Teaching Credential soon. Fun Fact: Miss Martinez is first cousin to Mr. Gallegos!
