Welcome to Kindergarten!

Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I lived in the suburbs of New York for most of my life, having moved to Napa in 2012 with my husband and our cat. I have fifteen years of experience in the field of education and have taught prekindergarten through eighth grade.

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, and a Masters of Science in Teaching, both from Pace University. I received my California Teaching Credential and am now an accredited elementary school teacher in three states. In addition, I have an extension to teach English Language Arts (my strong suit) to junior high.

Though I did not attend Catholic school as a child, I feel that Catholic schools are where I belong. The four years that I taught at St. Dominic School and the two that I have taught at St. John's have been the most memorable..

I enjoy reading, cooking, baking, painting, singing and jewelry making. I intend to put these skills and interests to good use in the classroom this year!

Last Week of School

Welcome to the last week of school.  Please note the early dismissal times for Tuesday (12:30 with extended care) and Wednesday (10:00 am with NO extended care).  Have a great summer!

Upcoming Events

Hello Parents,
Here are a couple of reminders.  Our Mother's Day Tea is Friday at 11 in the hall and TK-K has been working hard to give the moms a memorable day.  Also on Friday, there will be a school wide water balloon fight at the end of the day, since every class earned it with enough Jog-at-hon money.  It is the second Friday free dress for those who earned Friday free dress throughout May.  You might want to dress your child in layers that can be taken off if they get wet, or even provide a change of clothes if your child is staying for extended care.  Lastly we are having a bake sale Tuesday to raise funds for our Oakland Zoo Field Trip.  Please send your child in with baked goods to sell on Tuesday and see Mrs. Machado if you have field trip questions.
Thank you!
Mrs. B

This Week

Dear Parents,
It's May.  We are in the home stretch of the school year!  This is a relatively quiet week.  Moms, please RSVP by today (one way or the other) to the Mother's Day Tea.  You can send me an email or tell me in person whether you are coming.  We have a Faith Family activity this long Wednesday and Thursday is our turn to provide desserts for The Table.  Have a great week!

Dear Parents,
Easter is almost upon us.  I hope you all have a blessed Triduum and Easter.  Here are a few upcoming events that happen when we return to school.  Please write them on your calendar.
It is TK-K's turn to lead morning assembly during the week of April 24th!
The 8th grade "Living Stations of the Cross" will take place outside on Friday April 28th at 2:15 pm.  It was moved from April 13th, due to rainy weather.
Moms, I will soon be sending out invitations for the Mother's Day Tea, which takes place in the Parish Hall.  It's May 12, during our lunch time (11:15).  I know some people need a few weeks notice to ensure they can leave work or be off that day.
Our Jog-a-thon is coming up Wednesday April 26, after Mass.  Students will attend Mass with their Jog-a-thon tees and shorts under their school sweaters and pants/skirts.  They may wear their best running shoes, no matter the color.
For those students that attend Imagine Learning (computer class) after school, our last day and celebration will be May 1st.
Additionally, on May 1st, we will have a belated Earth Day "No Garbage Lunch."  On that day, please pack your child's lunch using reusable containers, fresh fruit, and anything else that does not produce garbage.
May 1st is also the final day to place yearbook orders online.  After that day, ordering will close and you will not be able to place late orders.
Lastly. May 4th is the TK-K's turn to provide desserts for The Table.  Please bring cookies, cake etc. to Teresa Garcia.
Thank you!
Kristen Braccia
Happy last week of March!  We have a very full week.  We are in the midst of learning the Stations of the Cross in TK-K.  We have Zumba this long Wednesday and free dress on Friday.  During free dress, please treat leggings as tights, rather than pants and ensure your child's footwear fits properly. Refer to the handbook if you have any questions about the dress code. Thank you!

A Busy Week Ahead

Dear Parents,
Happy Fat Tuesday and Ash Wednesday.  The season of Lent is upon us!  We have a busy week ahead of us.
Tonight you will receive a paper asking you to help you child create a Lenten prayer for tomorrow's Faith Family activity.  We will be using it to create a prayer chain before the burning of last year's palms.
We should be receiving ashes on Wednesday.  It is also a Zumba Day.
In honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday we will read his books all week and we will visit the library to make Dr. Seuss crafts with Mrs. Machado.  This fun will culminate on Friday with pajama day and a period of time to drop everything and read!
I hope all the students are looking forward to this week's activities.  I certainly am.
Have a great week!
Mrs. Braccia

Catholic Schools Week and the 100th Day!

Happy Catholic School's Week!  Friday is also the 100th day of school.  The children have been really looking forward to celebrating 100 days with counting, projects, and books all about 100.  Some students have told me they are bringing treats.  While I had planned on perhaps bringing cupcakes, I don't want us to be overloaded with treats.  Please let me know if you had intended to bring something in on that day, so I can plan accordingly.  Thank you!- Mrs. B.

MLK Day Sing Along Celebration

We are off Monday and Tuesday.  Feel free to join Napa Valley Voices, St. John's Choir (in uniform), me, and Mrs. Jeanette Chudnow (our music teacher) if you like on Monday.  We will be at the Springs (3460 Villa Lane) setting up at 12:45 and singing at 1:15 for Martin Luther King Jr Day Celebration.  Kinder has been practicing the chorus of "We Are the World" and would have the opportunity to join in.  There will other songs we know including "He's Got the Whole World" and "Lean On Me" as well as song booklets so the audience can easily join in.  Come by!

New Advent Program Meeting Spot just for TK-K

Hello Parents!
We are in the home stretch.  Here are some important upcoming events.
All Week:  It is our turn for assembly.  Please be on time.
Wednesday:  We have Zumba at 10:30 am.
Thursday:  The Advent Program is Thursday!  We meet at 6:15 pm on that night. Please note that only TK and K will be meeting in the room in the very back of the church that faces the altar (and not in the classroom).  This means you can leave your TK or Kinder child with the class, take his or her coat with you, and find a really good seat for the show.  Our class will process straight from the room down the center aisle when the show begins.
Friday:  Friday is a half day (12:30 dismissal) with no extended care.  Have a wonderful last week of Advent.  Merry almost Christmas and Happy New Year! See you January 3rd.
Mrs. B

Upcoming Events

It was great to see some of you at Breakfast with St. Nick!  We have lots happening in the next two weeks, especially this long Wednesday!  A change for this week is Mass will be Thursday the 8th (holy day of obligation), rather than the 7th, so we will have reading and then math first thing in the morning Wednesday, followed by the New England cultural lunch, a Faith Families Advent activity in afternoon, and finally caroling at around 1:45 or 2 pm downtown.  If you'd like to carol with us, send me an e-mail, because it might be nice to have a parent or two along.
The following week will be even busier. We are in charge of assembly all week and have several Advent program practices in the afternoons.  There is also Zumba the morning of the 14th (after Mass) and the Advent Program on Thursday the 15th at 6:15 pm (Students will wear white tops and black pants and meet at the school before heading to the church).  We have school-wide, fun Christmas activities planned for the 16th too (a minimum day).  Hold onto your hats folks! We are very busy but it's going to be a lot of fun.

Let You Light Shine Concert

Happy Wednesday!  The Let Your Line Shine Concert is tomorrow!  The children are ready to sing their hearts out for you.  Please arrive with your child at the church between 6:30 and 6:40 tomorrow evening.  They will be sitting in an assigned order in the first two pews on the right side of the alter and should be wearing white shirts, black bottoms, and black shoes!  See you then.
